welcome back to cnn's special election coverage. we're coming to you live from washington, d.c., this morning, just one day to go until the polls open nationwide. the battle for the white house could not be any tighter than it s take a look at the numbers. a brand new cnn/orc voter of likely voters has mitt romney and president obama in a dead heat at 49% apiece. today both kanld dates acandida targeting the crucial swing states. the president and bruce springsteen will hold rallies in madison, wisconsin, columbus, ohio, and des moines, iowa. mitt romney has rallies in columbus, ohio and lynch bunch, virginia and manchester new hampshire. superstorm sandy has election officials scrambling to relocate the polling stations and also in some cases bring generators to other polling stations and it is not clear how much the storm aftermath is going to impact voter turnout on tuesday. meanwhile, the daily news and "newsday," two new york newspaper that's backed president obama in 2008 are now backing governor romney. had barack obama done

brand-new numbers just out from cnn/orc. only about one in three say whatever deal should be struck should be just spending cuts. but almost seven in ten, two thirds of americans say the plan should include spending cuts and tax increases. our poll indicates americans are not so optimistic a deal will get done and if it doesn't get done, who gets the blame? look at this right here, about 45% say republicans in congress will be blamed if there is no deal and the country falls off the fiscal cliff. about a third say the president should get the blame. and about 15% say you know what? both sides get the blame. >> let's focus on those republicans. a lot are saying they will violate grover norquist's no tax pledge. >> this pledge goes back to 1986 and you're now seeing some republicans saying no i'm going to break this pledge. lindsey graham from south carolina, the most recent saxby chambliss did it the other day. those republicans senators up for re-election in 2014. maybe they'll face a challenge from the right. take a look at
